The Snellen eye chart was a wonderful invention because people could visit an eye doctor anywhere and get standardized results. Although a lot of progress has been made in medicine since the creation of the Snellen eye chart in 1862, it is still in use today. With this revolutionary chart, doctors can quickly evaluate their patients’ eyesight. A typical eye exam starts with the patient covering one eye and reading the letters on the chart from top to bottom.
